~ Masonboro Inlet Sea Buoy
This race is the premier offshore sailing event in North Carolina
and has been won by the best sailors in the Southeast.
In existence
for 38 years with a perpetual trophy, long-time
area sailors may remember the Seidel Wrightsville Beach to
Beaufort Race by other names such as: The Wachovia Cup, The
Beaufort Inlet Race, and most recently, The WGOR.
Atlantic
Orthopedics has taken over sponsorship of this great event,
which promises to be better than ever.
THE RACE

The SWBBR
is an offhshore race trekking 72 miles from Wilmington, NC to Beaufort, NC.
The race averages about 12-15 hours, though times can vary
widely--it's been done in as little as 4 hours via Melges
24, and as long as 30+ hours. There is
no safe haven between Masonboro Inlet and Beaufort Inlet.
Often, the finishes are in the middle of the night. The cruisers
sail a slightly shorter course.
The Seidel Wrightsville Beach to Beaufort Race is scheduled
just before the North Carolina Offshore Championship regatta
in Beaufort (see logo on the right sidebar). Taking the two
events together, there is a distance race followed by short
course racing--it's a great combination.

Before the race, there is lots of space to anchor boats in
Banks Channel at Wrightsville Beach as well as an excellent
public marina, SeaPath Yacht Club.
